2. Introduction Scientists have common approaches to solving problems. Usually, people think of experiments as one way scientists investigate problems. What kinds of experiments are possible when you study human beings? How can you collect evidence in these situations? Begin to consider these issues as you watch the story of the disease called pellagra which affected poor rural families in the South.
3. Dr. Goldberger Dr. Goldberger, who was a member of the U.S. Public Health Service for 13 years, was asked by the Surgeon General in 1914 to tackle the problem of Pellagra. There were thousands of cases and many in the south.
4. Video & Background Info. You are about to watch a 10 minute video segment on Pellagra. Listen carefully about what Dr. Goldberger did to investigate.
Each of you will get a worksheet, please write down the problem with pellagra, what people thought caused pellagra, his evidence his collected, and his conclusion.
