  2. 1. Size • Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world, and it makes up almost half of South America • It borders every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. • Brazil has a population of 168 million people.

  3. 2. The Amazon River This is a river in Brazil that is the second longest river behind the Nile River in Egypt.

  4. 3. Climate Brazil has a very varied climate due to its size. Brazil also has a large amount of rainfall this allows there to be a lot of thick forest areas with trees.

  5. 4. The Rain Forest • The Rain Forest provides 1/4th of the world’s medicine. • It is being cut down at a rate of two football fields every second. • Three reasons why it is being cut down are: • 1.) For Lumber • 2.) Minerals • 3.) Farming space.

  6. 5. The North • This economy depends mostly on agriculture, mining and forestry. • This section also has major port cities were trade can be done.

  7. 6. The South The South has great land for farming. It also has the major cities including: Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Each of these major cities has a lot of industry happening in them.

  8. 7. Favelas This is what the Brazillians call their very poor areas. In Brazil these poor areas are usually without running water and sewage systems.

  9. 8. Portuguese • The Portuguese were the first to colonize Brazil. • Brazil became an independent nation in 1825. • This is why the main language is Portuguese, and the main religion is Roman Catholic.

  10. 9. Cities The majority of Brazil’s population lives in one of the major cities. Most moved to these area in search of work and a better life.

  11. 10. The Government Brazil is a democratic republic, but all people are required to vote. Their president has much more power than the US president. And they have over a dozen political parties.
