The Beginning of Tamworth’s History. • We’re going to start by looking at a time when Tamworth was very important, it was the capital city of a huge Kingdom called Mercia. Answers to questions about Tamworth and the Staffordshire Hoard. • 1. Tamworth was used for important events like signing treaties or charters. • 2. Tamworth was a good place to build a castle as you could see a long way from the top of the castle, so you could see your enemies coming. You could protect trade which came along the river and there was a forest close by for wood to build castles and to hunt for food. • 3. The Staffordshire hoard was probably buried after a battle to keep it safe. • 4. This time was like gang warfare as Kings would fight other Kings for territory or respect. • 5. The precious stones showed the King’s traded with lots of other countries, the word for this is globalisation.
