  4. Who We Are? OSAF (Old Students Association of FAST-NU) Lahore Chapter of FAST-NU Alumni Association (FAA) – Registered as NGO Ambitious graduates of FAST-NU who want to work for the betterment of their Alma Mater, Its Students, Alumni and the Society.

OSAF Mission • To work for the betterment of FAST-NU, its faculty, students and Alumni by • Fostering a beneficial relationship between the Alumni and students of FAST-NU based upon providing ‘academic, intellectual, social, professional and financial’ assistance • Supporting efforts to create and maintain the required environment, conducive to Research & Development inside the University. • Bridging gaps between the Industry and FAST-NU • Helping FAST-NU ‘identify and develop’ the best intellectual resource pool to serve the current and future needs of Industry

  8. Common Myths… OSAF is an unstructured society comprising of 4-5 overly enthusiastic members OSAF has representatives from Computer Science department only OSAF provides only scholarships and arranges yearly alumni homecoming

OSAF Body • OSAF body comprises of OSAF representatives elected every year from each graduated batch • OSAF comprises of Computer Science, Engineering, and Management Science graduates • 30+ members are serving on OSAF board • 100+ volunteers work for OSAF round the year • Over 1000+ Alumni make contributions to OFA program every year

Mock Interview Sessions • OSAF organized ”Mock Interviews” session for Management Science (MBA and BBA) students on March 28th, 29th 2008. • Panelists from well reputed organizations like Mobilink, Wateen Telecom, Nestle, Nishat Chunian, Oracle Consultant etc. participated in this seminar. • Panelists from Wateen, Nishat Chunian and Oracle shortlisted bright candidates for further interview. Seminars • Final Year Project (FYP) Orientation and Advisory • OSAF in collaboration with IEEE-NUCES, held the Final Year Project Orientation Seminar for the final year Computer Science and Telecommunication students. • Career Development & Higher Studies • OSAF in collaboration with the Career Society of FAST-NU organized this seminar. Alumni from reputed organizations like Microsoft, Mobilink, Techlogix, MetaApp, CambridgeDocs & LUMS participated as guest speakers.

Bottlenecks • University’s Limited Support • Day & Time constraints to use Campus facilities • Communication Gap • Insufficient Working Funds • Hard To Find Volunteers & Contributors • Alumni at large just don’t want to keep a link as they find no sense of association, and would prefer going abroad or other local Institutes like LUMS for Masters/PhD because of • ad-hoc rules & policies • tense relationship issues (accounts, academics, faculty) • lack of research facilities & research culture including very limited financial support for Masters/PhD students & researchers

Proposed Solutions • Few words by Alumni Representative (like President OSAF) in events like Convocation, Welcome, Farewell • Inviting members of Alumni Association as guests on recent Convocation was a step forward in this regard initiated by Director, Lahore Campus, Dr. Arshad Hussain [worth appreciation] • University inviting Alumni to attend homecoming event organized by University in collaboration with OSAF • Designating an individual as representative of University to attend OSAF meetings
