  3. Health - is a combination of physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. What is Health?

  4. Physical Health-Condition of your body in order to perform daily functions without difficulty. Your Health Pyramid

  5. Mental- An individuals ability to store and process information that alters their behavior. Your Health Pyramid

  6. Social Health- Ability to form and maintain satisfying relationships Your Health Pyramid

  7. Emotional Health-Ability to effectively deal with a range of emotions in a healthy way Your Health Pyramid

  8. What behaviors promote good physical health? • What behaviors promote bad emotional health? Think, Pair, Share

  9. Health pyramid is connected by all sides, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Achieving a Healthy Balance

  10. Wellness – is a state of well-being or total health. Wellbeing- the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy. Wellness and Total Health

  11. Adolescence – the stage between childhood and adulthood. Now is the time that you decide who you will be. What will the changes you experience effect? Adolescence

  12. Puberty – time when you start developing physical characteristics of adults your gender. Hormones – chemical substances, produced in glands, that help regulate many body functions What Physical Changes to Expect

  13. Emotional • Mood swings • Feelings of attractions towards others • Increased awareness • Mental • Face more complex problems • Imagine possible consequences • Understand different points of view • Understand how your choices affect others Mental/Emotional Changes

  14. Changes occur with your relationships, remember that healthy relationships are important to good health. Relationships include: Family Peers – people in your age group Community Social Changes

  17. Long Term Consequence- Occurring over or relating to a long period of time Short Term Consequence- Covering or applying to a relatively short period of time Long Term vs Short Term Consequences

Cumulative Risks – are related risks that increase in effect with each added risk. + + = Risks and Consequences • Precautions – planned actions taken before an event to increase the chances of a safe outcome. • Prevention – taking steps to keep something from happening or getting worse. • Risk Behaviors- actions that might cause injury or harm to yourself or others.

  19. Abstinence – conscious active choice not to participate in high-risk behaviors. Choosing Abstinence
