Educational Information • Graduated from Perdue in 1981 • Bachelors of Science in Industrial Management • Received MBA from Butler in 1986 • Took him 5 years to finish masters. • Never had any form of internship or other type of CO-OP in or out of school. James Bronk interview with Randy Manning
Educational Experience • Most and Least Helpful Classes • Most helpful classes were: Finance, Management, Communications, and Case studies. Least helpful was Marketing. • Master’s Degree • In his opinion, his master helped advance his career. It was a very helpful differential from other candidates when applying and competing for promotional positions. • How well did your Education Prepare you? • For my current career my education did not prepare me at all. But this is because I have been slowly integrating into the software side of SAP. Career Information • Does your family life influence your career? • My family absolutely, influences where and when I work. • Why did you choose the field? • I was looking to marry a management with a technical field. • If given the opportunity, would you could go back in time and change your major? • No, all I would change is to go after a minor in software alongside my bachelors degree. • How would you compare your job experience so far to what you expected before you actually started to work? • It is very similar to what I excepted, I just thought I would be working on more hands on projects. • Benefits to my knowledge are equal to other jobs. Work Environment Part1 • Daily Routine: No set routine other than he checks his E-mails every morning and every night. • Hours per Week: 40-60 Depends on project and what stage the project is on. • Weekends: Very rarely but depends on project. • Free-time: Plenty when not currently on project, but during project crunch time I get no time off work. Work Environment Part 2 • Interactions with people outside of engineering: Every single day. • Skill essential to your job: Definitely in order • Communication • Effective and Active Listener • Critical Thinking Skills • Presentations: Very rarely, but lots of update reports. • Any Mentors: Not really “mentors”… Well maybe my Dad James Bronk interview with Randy Manning
Work Environment Part 3 • Most Stressful Part of Work: Understanding that what you put in place has a financial impact on the business you consulted. • Least Stressful Part of Work : Cashing my now online pay check. • Work in Groups or alone: Almost always in groups of people ranging from 15 to 30 people. • Do You Travel: Yes all the time for projects in other countries. Future Career Path • Is there room for career growth currently at your company? • Absolutely, there are all sorts of possible job promotions from where I am at currently • Where do you see your self in 5-10 years? • Most definitely retired, done with all grinds and starting to enjoy what is left in life.
