  2. What is Jump Rope For Heart • A National Fundraising Program • Sponsored jointly by AAHPERD and AHA • Promotes heart healthy living • Targeted at elementary school students. • Supports physical activity /community service to children. • Same group as Hoops for Heart

  3. Benefits • Great service learning project • Integrates physical activity and critical thinking skills • Encourages cooperative activity

  4. Partnership with AHA • American Heart Association raises funds for: • Stroke research • Health education. • cardiovascular disease research

  5. Students are given the opportunity to contribute to the fight against heart disease and stroke Heart disease and stroke

Who is AHA(American Heart Association) • Group formed in 1915 did not go public until 1948 with a radio contest “ The Walking Man. • The organization's strategic driving force: Providing credible heart disease and stroke information for effective prevention and treatment. • Since January 2005, the AHA has committed $15,740,346 in research dollars to institutions

  7. Heart Facts • Your heart is the size of your fist. • It is just left of the center of your chest. • It pumps blood through your body • It gives them oxygen and nutrients • Playing keeps body alive and healthy.

  12. Skill #15 Front Cross1. With the rope in front of your feet, cross your right arm over your left armin front until your elbows touch and your hands extend beyond your waist.Rotate your wrists.2. Start with the rope behind your feet. Swing the rope overhead, crossingyour right arm over your left arm. Don’t jump. Check your hand placement.3. Repeat Step 2. Jump one time with your arms crossed so the rope goesunder your feet and continues back up overhead.4. Repeat Step 3. When the rope comes back up overhead, open your armsfor a Basic Jump.

  13. Skill #2 3 Wounded Duck1. Jump over the rope and land with your toes and knees turned inwardand your heels apart.2. Jump over the rope and land with your toes and knees turned outwardand your knees apart.

  14. 3 3 Swing Kick Jump over the rope, landing on your right foot, and swing your left foot back. 2. Jump over the rope, landing on your right foot again, and kick your left foot forward. 3. Jump over the rope, landing on your left foot, and swing your right foot back. 4. Jump over the rope, landing on your left foot again, and kick your right foot forward.

  19. How to Coordinate an Event • Start six to eight weeks before event. • Events can be during or after school. • Promote the event to participants • Involve all teachers and classes. • Set a deadline to collect donations. • Complete an event evaluation.
