Timeline Fact 1 • The first bridges were formed by nature such as a fallen tree over a stream or ditch.
Timeline Fact 2 • The first man-made bridges were built by the Romans during B.C. times. The first being Pons Sublicius, a timber bridge over the Tiber River.

Bridge 1: Golden Gate Bridge • The Golden Gate Bridge spans about 9000 feet across the Golden Gate in San Francisco CA. • It is a suspension, truss arch bridge over the bay 746 in the air.
Bridge 2: The Great Belt Bridge • Also known as the Storbaelt Bridge, it crosses “The Great Belt” at a length of 22 thousand feet. • The suspension bridge connects Zealand and Funen in Europe.
Bridge 3: Sidney Harbor Bridge • This Single-Arch Bridge crosses Port Jackson in Sydney, Australia. • It is 3770 feet long and is also known as “The Colin.”
Bridge 4: Tower Bridge Of London • This bascule-suspension bridge stretches 801 feet over the Thames River.
Bridge 5: Akashi-Kaikyō • Also known as the pearl bridge. Its the worlds longest suspension bridge and it is 6,532 feet long. It is a suspension deck bridge. The bridge is located in Japan and it links the city of Kobe on the mainland of Honshu to Iwaya on Awaji Island by crossing the busy Akashi Strait.
