Timeline- Roman Era (1st and 2nd Century AD) • Bridges of the Roman Era were mostly built over ravines. Other bridges were built over bridges. • An example of Roman Bridges still exsisting today would be the Alcántara bridge, Toledo, Spain.
The Middle Ages (12th – 16th Century) • Inhabited bridges were built more commonly during this time period. • One of the more famous bridges, The London Bridge, was built between 1176 and 1209. This is the world's first stone bridge to be constructed in a tidal waterway, with a large rise and fall of level every twelve hours.
