What is the common cold? • Coronavirus • A virus that entered your body. • From touching any contaminated surface, then touching your mouth, nose, etc. • The virus gets stuck in your nose or throat and inflames quickly. • White blood cells are constantly being sent to fight off the virus. • Your body has to use so much energy fighting off the virus, you feel tired, worn out, and lethargic.
Symptoms of the common cold • Common symptoms of the common cold: • Itchy/sore throat • Sneezing • Nasal congestion • Watery eyes • An abundance of mucus • These symptoms may suggest that you have the flu: • Sore muscles • High fever • The flu is much more serious than the common cold and should be checked by a doctor right away.
Spreading of Germs • For germs to spread from one person to another, three things must happen: • Germs must be present. A person carries the germs; the germs are in the air or on a surface; or in body fluids such as mucus from the person's nose, a discharge from the eye, or saliva from the mouth. • A person who is not immune to the germs comes in contact withthem. This happens when you touch a computer keyboard or mouse after someone with a cold or other illness has used it. It can happen when you use a telephone after someone who is sick touched it, when you kiss an ill person, or when you're in the path of someone's sneeze or cough (and that's hard to prevent!). • This point of contact happens in a way that leads to infection. In other words, as you touch your face, mouth, nose, or rub your eyes with unwashed hands, the germs enter your body.
Cold weather and the common cold • During cold weather try to do the following: • Wear as much clothing as you can to stay warm • Try staying inside for as long as possible • Wash your hands with warm water whenever possible • When you are in the cold, the inside of your nose gets drier, therefore, easier to get infected. • Washing your hands regularly with soap and warm water helps protect you from germs.
Best ways to prevent a cold • Wash your hands • Don’t cover you mouth or nose with your hands • Avoid touching your face • Do cardio-related exercise • Eat fruits and vegetables (dark greens especially) • Avoid smoking • Avoid drinking • Relax
Duration and treatment • The common cold usually lasts for 7-9 days long. • You do not need antibacterial medication when you get the common cold. • It is a virus, not a bacteria, so it won’t help. • However, infections are commonly results of the common cold • Throat, lung, ears, etc. • Now, antibacterial medication would help you. • Drinking plenty of water will help clean your body of the virus.
