3. Benefits of the PMF • Flexible starting grades: GS9, GS11, or GS12 • Guarantee of appointment to full-time permanent position for those certified at completion of 2 years • Streamlined application process thru usajobs.gov (no KSAs required!)

4. Who’s Eligible for the 2011 PMF • Students completing an accredited masters or PhD between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011 • Students must receive nomination by their Dean, Assistant Dean, or Academic Program Director

6. PMF 2011: Important Dates • Application for the PMF Class of 2011 opens via a vacancy announcement on USAJOBS opens October 1 • Deadline for application is October 15 • Nominations must be submitted by nominating official to PMF between October 15-31 • Mid November 2010Applicants officially notified of eligibility and nomination status Nominees notified of assessment date/time/location • Mid-December 2010 Nominees notified of semi-finalist status via email • January/February 2011Assessments conducted nationwide for the semi-finalists • Late February/Early March 2011Nominees notified of finalist status • Mid-March/Early April 2011PMF Class of 2011 Finalists invited to Job Fair, Finalists contact recruiters, Agency visits (Washington, DC, metro area)

7. Application process • Graduate students submit online application via USAJOBS– “Applicant” or via a link on PMF website • Nominating Officials nominate applicants based on competitive nomination process – “Nominee” • OPM invites Nominees to an online, un-proctored assessment – based on score, selected Nominees become “Semi-Finalists” • Semi-Finalists are invited to an in-person assessment center (similar to previous assessment process) – based on score, selected Semi-Finalists become “Finalists” • Finalists secure positions with a Federal Agency – upon appointment, status changes to “Fellow”

Application You may apply through your school or through CURF (Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships) http://www.upenn.edu/curf/ Read the common list of errors (on PMF website) Review, review, review Submit application on-line at www.pmf.opm.gov by 10/15 midnight deadline Print out copy of your submission verification Print nomination form and provide to your nominating official

9. Nomination process • Submission of nominations must be done via fax and only one submission at a time (schools should keep copies of fax transmittals for verification) • Schools are unable to verify fax submissions • Applicants can check the status after a few business days via their Application Manager account • The deadline for submitting nominations is 11:59:59 p.m. (Eastern Time), Sunday, October 31, 2010 • Nomination Officials sign and fax the PMF Nomination Form only for students the school wishes to nominate • Academia guidance and nomination information can be found on the PMF website – SHARE WITH YOUR NOMINATING OFFICIALS.

11. Penn’s Nomination Procedure using CURF • By October 19, submit to CURF: • Resume • 500 word statement of purpose • Nomination Form • By October 27, CURF will make/confirm nomination decisions, notify applicants and submit nominations • Applicants can confirm nomination with OMB

12. Application Procedures and Selection Criteria Several graduate and professional schools have their own nominating official and process. For those graduate and professional schools that do not, CURF provides a unified nominating process. In sequence, what the applicant needs to do is: 1. complete the Presidential Management Fellows Program application on the program web site 2.
