  2. What is CENIC? TheCorporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) designs, implements, and operates CalREN, the California Research and Education Network. CalREN is a high-bandwidth, high-capacity Internet network specially designed to meet the unique requirements of California’s education and research communities. The vast majority of the state's K-20 educational institutions are connected to CalREN.

Central Valley Broadband • Community Anchor Institutions to be served: • 18 County Office of Education sites with 2x1Gbps • 1 County Office of Education site with 2x10Gbps • 3 California State Universities with 2x10Gbps • 14 California Community Colleges with 2x1Gbps • 20 Library jurisdictions with 1Gbps • 7 Public Safety Answering Points with 1Gbps

  7. What is K12HSN? The California K-12 High Speed Network (K12HSN) is a program funded by the California Department of Education. K12HSN provides California’s K-12 public schools with: Network connectivity, Internet services, Teaching and learning application coordination, and Videoconferencing coordination and support.

  8. The CalREN Infrastructure K-12 Segment: • As of February 2012, 86% of California School Districts and more than 7,700 schools are connected to CalREN through K12HSN • Districts connect to the network via one of the 73 K12HSN Node Sites

  9. DataLINK: Connectivity Data • DataLINKoffers direct access to connectivity data and related information for California’s K-12 schools and districts. • Data can be viewed through any one of the standard reports. Custom reports can also be generated using the report generator feature.

  10. Videoconferencing Support • K12HSN provides California K-12 schools and the Higher Education community with a free videoconferencing scheduling system. • Additional services, such as multipoint bridging, recording and streaming are also available at no cost.

Calaxy: Free Suite of Web 2.0 Tools • K12HSN provides a comprehensive set of FREE web 2.0 tools to support teaching and learning in California classrooms. • The suite is available to the California K-12 education community at no cost and allows teachers to access web 2.0 tools within a “trusted community.”

  14. CaliQity: Free e-Learning Platform Thanks to a strategic partnership between K12HSN and IQ-ity, California schools have access to CaliQity: • Free Learning Management System (LMS) • Repository of free and fee-based courses and learning objects
