Part 2-Christ in the Passover 1 Corinthians 5 Exodus 12
Jesus is prefigured in many of the Old Testament stories, rituals, observances and celebrations. One of the great OT stories and celebrations was the Passover. The Israelites had been in bondage to the Egyptians and God had sent Moses to deliver His chosen nation from their bondage. In a series of 10 plagues God demonstrated His power and brought judgment upon the ungodly Pharaoh. The final plague sent by God was the death of the firstborn in all of Egypt!
God in His mercy provided a way of salvation through the blood of the Passover lamb. The Israelites were told to select a perfect lamb and on the appointed evening kill it and spread its blood upon the doorposts of their home. That same night the LORD passed through Egypt killing the firstborn of every household, but those homes where the blood was present He passed over and spared the life of the firstborn. In the New Testament we find that Jesus is our Passover lamb whose blood is sufficient to cover the sins of all who believe!
“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7
