Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING WHAT IS EVALUATING ? • It involves 4 stages • - observe action • - describe action • - compare action to MODEL PERFORMANCE • - suggest ways to improve performance
Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING OBSERVING ACTION • - watch the video when told to do so by reader • - watch the action carefully • - look to see if the person is wearing a number, check the colour of their top etc – i.e. identify them • - watch closely and note which actions/skills they perform • - look at the direction, body shape, speed, strength, flow of their action
Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING • DESCRIBE THE ACTION • - firstly you must name the SKILL you see performed • - secondly you must describe the skill in as much detail as you can • - check how many marks the question is worth to guide you on the amount of detail needed in your answer • - the amount of detail needed will depend on the paper e.g. Foundation, General or Credit
Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING DESCRIBE THE ACTION • FOUNDATION • - name the generic skill for 1st mark, give 1 descriptor for 2nd mark e.g. pass forwards • GENERAL • - name the generic skill then give 2 descriptors for 1 mark each e.g. chest pass forwards / pass forwards powerfully • CREDIT • - name the specific skill then give 2 descriptors for 2 marks e.g. chest pass forwards powerfully
Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING COMPARE TO MODEL PERFORMANCE • - when you identify the skill you are watching think about how the skill should be performed • - think about the correct Preparation, Action and Recovery • - think about the correct body shape, direction, height, speed, tempo and flow of the skill • Compare what you see and identify where the skills match and where they are different
Standard Grade PE - EVALUATING SUGGEST WAYS TO IMPROVE • Whenever your comparison identifies a similarity between the skill you see and the model performance this is DONE WELL • Whenever your comparison identifies a difference between the skill you see and the model performance this NEEDS IMPROVEMENT • For every Needs Improvement suggest a way that the fault could be fixed • DO NOT STATE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, SUGGEST A CURE
