Ministries de Luz Divina • Youth • After school tutoring & counseling • Many families can’t afford the cost of school supplies and uniforms (about $35 per month) so children begin dropping out of school after 8th grade • We are now working on a program for us in the USA to sponsor a child for a year of education.
Luz Divina ObjectivesJuly 2005 – June 2006 • Develop skills in children for dancing, singing, and acting • Increase children from 50 to 100 • Develop the children into leaders • Get at least 50% of the parents to attend church
Luz Divina ObjectivesJuly 2005 – June 2006 • Get 70 children into Sunday school • Feb 2006: Vacation Bible School • April 2006: Field trip for children with their parents • June 2006: Program showcasing children’s talents
The Cycle of Poverty • Children quit school after 8th grade because their families can’t afford the registration, uniforms, supplies & meals • Leaves children with nothing to do and no employable skills • Idle time leads to crime and children having children • Children grow up not knowing their father
The Cycle of Poverty • Mothers raise children and have no income • Some mothers sell merchandise on street corners while children stay home alone • Mother can’t afford education for her children when they approach high school • It starts over again
Break The Cycle of Poverty • Completing an education is the key to getting a child out of the cycle • Families need financial assistance • Luz Divina has proposed an “Adopt A Grandchild” program • Children apply to ILEP to be put on “adoption list” • Person from TX-LA Synod adopts an ILEP student and funds his/her education • $100 per year + $35 per month x 9 months = $415/yr
