2. How did economic changes contribute to growing sectionalism? • Economic changes contributed to the growing of sectionalism by white southerners relying more on cotton and slavery. In the Northeast wealth was based on manufacturing. In the west, settlers wanted cheap land and good transportation.

Why did the events in the early 1800’s in Latin America Concern the United States? • The events did in the early 1800’s in Latin America concerned the U.S. because in Latin America several countries had successfully fought for their independence from Spain and Portugal. Some European monarchies planned to help Spain and Portugal regain their colonies hoping to keep urge to revolt from reaching Europe .U.S. leaders feared that if this happened, their own government would be in danger.

Why did the question of admitting Missouri to the Union divide the nation • The question of admitting Missouri to the Union divided the nation because people in Missouri wanted to allow slavery in their state. At the time there were 11 slave states and 11 free states adding Missouri to the slave states would upset the balance of power in congress.

6. What was the purpose of the Monroe Doctrine? • The purpose of the Monroe Doctrine is that President Monroe promised that the U.S. would stay out of European affairs. The Monroe Doctrine showed that U.S. saw itself as a world power and protector of Latin American.
