Spectrometer Solenoid – Quench Analysis • The LBNL version of the quench model has been further refined - Heng Pan is finishing various quench scenarios • Soren Prestemon is trying to arrange a phone meeting w/Vladimir Kashikhin on Thursday to discuss quench analyses - Heng Pan is sending the latest LBNL results to Valdimir • An eddy current analysis of the shield will be carried out by Heng Pan to determine if an electrical split line is needed - analysis will look at forces during quench - preference is no split due to tight inner bore clearances • Soren has a technician starting to mock up the quench resistor conductive cooling scheme - expect to complete the assembly this week - test should take place next week S. Spectrometer Solenoid - Mechanical Design • A PO change order to is being issued to Wang NMR this week for the design work associated with the magnet modifications • The vendor is beginning work on the details of the design modifications (layout and fabrication drawings) - includes 5+1 cooler layout, new radiation shield, modified shield connection, modified vent/fill lines, new vacuum pump port - vendor expects to complete the design details in 3 to 4 weeks • The order for 1100 series aluminum to remake the radiation shields is due in at Wang NMR in 2 to 3 weeks • The magnet heat leak calculations will be revisited by Tapio - the vendor will do his own analysis of the modified system S. Spectrometer Solenoid - Instrumentation • The instrumentation and feedthrough plan has been completed and is being reviewed - Roy is compiling a detailed instrumentation spreadsheet • Steve V. and Roy met with an instrumentation rep at Wang NMR on Monday to discuss sensor types – order to be placed this week • The current instrumentation plan will be checked by Roy and our LBNL tech to ensure that all sensor types are separated (voltage and He level may be on same feedthrough) • We will need to make up new instrumentation cables to match the feedthrough cfg. - it may be possible to reuse the magnet end of the old cables S.
