Technical Progress • Cold mass • - Cover cut open in the area of the quench resistors • - Original resistor assembly to be removed soon • - Diode assembly to remain in place • Quench resistor assembly • - Hardware design and fabrication completed at LBNL • - Preliminary assembly now under way • - Installation to begin next week • Vacuum vessel modifications • - Added penetrations in first vacuum vessel wall complete • - 4th& 5th coolers, larger vacuum ports, prep for end plates • - Modifications to 2nd vacuum vessel under way • Instrumentation • - Calibration of Cernox sensors nearly complete at FNAL • - Silicon diodes and new LHe level gauges received

Quench Analysis Write Up • Spectrometer solenoid quench analyses at LBNL has been completed by Soren Prestemon and Pan Heng • Final write up is currently being reviewed • Several conclusions regarding magnet protection • - Existing passive system provides adequate protection • - Resistor cooling scheme being implemented • - An active, external system will be employed to protect the HTS leads in case of a lead quench

Spectrometer Solenoid Milestones • Resistor/Diode Pack with conduction plate installed to Cold Mass – 14th September • Parts are complete – preparation for installation to start later this week • 2. Cold Mass ready for Helium leak checking – 19th September • Machining work on Vacuum Vessel completed – 22nd September • First unit is now complete, second unit is under way • 4. Cold Mass ready for MLI wrapping – 23rd September • 5. Assembly Starts on Upstream Spectrometer Solenoid – 6th October • 6. Cold Mass and Shield inside the Vacuum Vessel – 25th October
