Language Diffusion and Creation • How does language move to new places? - Business (Swahili – business language between Arabic speakers and Bantu speaking tribes) - Migration (new language introduced) – colonization in North America, immigration • Language has regional differences - dialect (Louisiana Creole, southern drawl, slang)
Religion • Belief in supernatural being or beings with power to control universe - maintain universe • Monotheistic - one god • Polytheistic - multiple gods • Animistic - spirits, natural forces in nature

Cultural Tolerance/Intolerance • Resistance occurs with cultural change - new languages, religions, or customs - a society may feel threatened • Problems with cultural intolerance - isolation of a group - extermination of a culture or group, i.e. Nazis
