  2. KHS Health Sciences Booster ClubMission Statement We are in the midst of one of the most profound educational challenges of our nation. Resources for our public schools to provide excellence in academic teaching are not available. The KHS Health Sciences Booster Club seeks to identify the needs of our Health Science Department, specifically in terms of classroom equipment, teacher training/development and for the continuation of the HOSA organization and then begin with competence and character to unleash the resources necessary to address the academic challenges we face.

Background Ms. Pam Lard: • Bachelors Degree from Midwestern State University in Psychology/Kinesiology • Masters from Angelo State in Major in Kinesiology/ Minor in Special Language Learning Disorders • State License and National Certified in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine • Emergency Room Technician • X-ray Technician in U.S. Army – 3 ½ years E4 Ms. Cheryl Berude • Bachelors Degree from Texas A&M, Medical Technologist • Certified MT, ASCP • Masters Degree student in Forensic Science (half way completed to date)

  5. Why do we need a Booster Club? • Classroom Needs: Books, Equipment, Disposables • Current Budget for 2 Classrooms - $800 per year • Professional Development • Ms. Lard required to keep Sports Medical License current • Ms. Berude – Technology Career Conference • HOSA

Classroom Needs • 2 inch Kling bandage rolls • 4 inch Kling, padded board splints • adhesive tape • elastic bandages • scissors • hand scrub/germicidal soap • Cover strips • Test tubes • Stains for blood and bacteria • Distilled water • EKG Machine • Autoclave • Transcription machine • Hospital beds • Anatomical models - various parts of the body • Skeleton • hamper • oxygen masks and tubing • portable oxygen • X-ray mounts • sports tape • microscopes • Loops • Scales with height measurement • Military Clocks (2) • HOSA Books • Medical terminology Books – have 17 need 30 • Single head stethoscope • Teaching stethoscopes • Sphygmomanometers (aneroid/mercuric) • Thermometers (digital IV AC/thermoscope) • Clock (with second hand) • meter sticks or metric rulers • Manikin (adult and infant) • Wheelchair • Blankets • Pillows • Linens (draw sheet, fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillow case) • Anatomical charts • Isolation gowns • Isolation kit • gloves, masks • triangular bandages • 4 inch gauze squares

Health Occupation Student Association The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.   Largest Club on KHS Campus 250 Students
