The Inventor of Bread By: Isabel
Have you ever wondered who invented bread? Well, in this story it tells you how bread is born. Legend says that 2600 B.C. an Egyptian was making flour-and-water cakes for his master. One evening he fell asleep. The fire went out before the cakes had finished baking. During the night the dough fermented and puffed. By the time the slave awoke the dough was twice the size it was the night before. He quickly put the dough back into the oven before anyone noticed that he had fallen asleep without finishing his hard work. When, finally the bread was taken out both the slave and his master found that it was more spectacular than the flat water-and-flour cakes they were used to. It was much much more lighter and airier. Egyptians continued to experiment with making yeast and became the world’s first professional bakers.
