This is my 5th year at GHS. • I am a proud military Veteran. • I was born in France to Spanish speaking parents from Puerto Rico. • I am married to Gene (30 yrs.) & am the mother of 4 GHS Alumni - Genette, Raphy, Georgia & Geami. • I am the proud Grandmother of Laela, Camille & Kingston. • I love to read, work on crafts & travel.
Schedule • 1st Period – 7th Grade Civics • 2nd Period – Spanish I • 3rd Period – Spanish II • 4th Period – Spanish I • Middle School Lunch • 5th Period – 7th Grade Civics • 6th Period – 7th Grade Civics • 7th Period – Spanish II
ClassroomRules All GHS Student Agenda/Handbook policies will be enforced. • Be in the Classroom with pencils sharpened & ready to work on Bellwork when the tardy bell rings. • Bring Textbook & all needed materials to class Everyday. • Always have your Agenda Book. • Prepare your papers with the following information: Name, Date, & Period. • Be Respectful-respect your peer’s personal space. • No gum, food, or drink in the classroom. • Cell phones will be turned off & out of sight or confiscated by Teacher. • Keep desk area neat & tidy • Teacher dismisses class • It is your responsibility to “make up work” as stated in the Agenda Book. If absent, check the “Make-Up Work” notebook for missed assignments. Late assignments will not be excepted.
Bellwork– 10 minutes at the start of class • Spanish classes will review • Civics classes will watch CNN Students News • Direct Instruction – Introduction of lesson • Classwork – Assignment to reinforce lesson • Class Activity – Application of lesson Classroom Procedures
Spanish I & IIThe purpose of this course is to teach you to speak everyday Spanish. Emphasis will be placed on: Expression Conversation Cultural Awareness Developing Listening, Speaking, Reading, Grammar & Writing Skills in order to meet Florida Sunshine State Standards in Foreign Language.
Why Learn Spanish? • Spanish is the language of more than 350 million people around the world. • Hispanics outnumber African Americans as the largest minority group in the USA. • Learning Spanish is necessary to keep pace with popular culture. • In the US. Spanish has become the unofficial 2nd language with • 45.5 million people speaking it at home. • Knowing Spanish will completely transform your travel experience • As you study the language, you will come to understand & appreciate the way of life, customs, values, & culture of people from almost all the countries of Central & South America, Mexico and several of the larger islands in the Caribbean. • Being bilingual is a business necessity. It will open doors to career opportunities in Retail, Medical, Law Enforcement, Banking, • Social Work, Music, Fashion, Sports, etc… • Leaning Spanish can be fun and will bring you a sense of • accomplishment.
What is Civics? • The purpose for this required course is to learn about the rights & duties of citizenship. Students will learn about their local, state, & federal government. This course meets Florida Sunshine State Standards & Benchmarks 1-4. The following units will be covered: • American Citizenship • Foundations of American Government • United States & Its Federal Government • State & Local Government • Elections, Parties & Pressure Groups • Economics • Global Affairs
