Uitgangspunt 3: een tekst / een afbeelding • 3.1 probeer de inscriptie te categoriseren • 3.2 probeer een stuk tekst te lezen, liefst een element als een eigennaam o.i.d. • 3.3 voer de tekst in in een database • check: confronteer 3.1 met resultaat van 3.3 • 3.4 indien succes, verzamel één of meer referenties  zie vervolgens uitgangspunt 1: een referentie

Zoeken naar vooralsnog onbekende in-scripties: wat is er aan epigrafisch materiaal relevant voor vraag/onderwerp X, Y en Z? • Provenantie  corpora • Datering  corpora, bloemlezingen • Onderwerp  thematische collecties; onderwerpsindices; ELKE publicatie betreffende het onderwerp waarin epigrafisch materiaal is verwerkt; Grieks en Latijns vocabulaire • Bepaald kenmerk  thematische collecties

PAPER Kies een onderwerp + vraagstelling  zoek relevant epigrafisch materiaal  publiceer een klein corpus (mettre en série!!), in de vorm van een ‘modeluitgave’  analyseer het epigrafisch materiaal en bespreek in hoeverre dat materiaal kan bijdragen aan de beantwoording van je vraag (benoem sterke en zwakke punten)  een hypothese formuleren mag, maar misschien kan dat niet op de basis van alleen dit materiaal. Het gaat om het potentieel van het epigrafisch materiaal voor een beantwoording van je vraag.
