JA Core Purpose To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Focus on 3 Pillars of Learning Entreprenuership Workforce Readiness Financial Literacy
Founded in 1919 • JA started as a collection of small after- school business clubs for students in Springfield, Massachusetts. • JA now reaches more than 11 million young people worldwide each year. JA History
Huntsville office founded in 1985. • Merged with Decatur office in Jan 2009 • Recently formed Marshall Co. District summer 2011 • Now serves 12 counties - 11 in North Alabama, 1 in Tennessee • Teaches approximately 10,000 students each year! JA North Alabama History

Standard In-Class Job Shadow JA-in-a-Day What Would I Be Committing To? • One day • For 8th-12th grade students • Students visit your • workplace • 2 student minimum • You set the date & time with the student • Elementary only • Whole school • All in 1 day • Typically 8:00 – 2:00 • Date is set between school and company • Elementary • 5 lessons • 30-45 minutes each • Middle School • 6 lessons • 45-55 minutes each • High School • 5-8 lessons • 1 hour each
What Would I Be Committing To? Adventures in Engineering Young Minds at Work Entrepreneurship Camp • One day • For high school junior and seniors. • Partnership with local universities and many organizations on Redstone Arsenal • 2011 – first time bringing students offsite locations • One day • For 8th grade students • Students visit your • workplace • Must be able to accommodate up to 50 people at one time • Hands-on activities with the students • July 15-20, 2012 • For high school students • Students stay at UAH • Business compeition • $300 – all housing, meals, and materials • Scholarships available
