  1. Junior Achievement 4.2 “Help Wanted”

  2. Let’s review some vocabulary. • Interest: • Something a person likes to do. • Skill: • A developed ability or aptitude a person does well. • Career Cluster: • A way to organize and categorize career clusters.

  3. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” - Helen Keller

  4. Do you agree with this statement? • Why or why not?

  5. During your time with JA BizTown, you will be working with others in a business. What is the one way you can support others?

  6. During today’s lesson you will learn about the skills and talents you have to offer as you work with others as part of a JA BizTown team.

  7. Turn back to page 46; your Interests and Skills Inventory. What did you learn about yourself?

  8. It’s important for you to remember what you like to do and what you are good at doing when you think about what kind of job you want at JA BizTown.

  9. Your employer will want to hire: • A good problem-solver • A team player • A good communicator • Someone who is detailed in their work • Someone who is punctual (turns up on time)

  10. What is an employer?

  11. An employer is a person or business who employs (hires) people, usually for a salary (money).

  12. If you work for an employer, you are called an “employee”.

  13. Take some time to read the job descriptions for the businesses we get to run while we are at JA BizTown. Select your three favorite jobs.

  14. Now that you have picked your “top three”, let’s look at the job application you will need to fill out. (transparency 4-2)

  15. Try to pick some jobs that match your interests and skills. Your job application is your first chance to impress your employer, so take time to do a neat, complete job.

  16. Please fill out the Word Bank on page 53 when you have completed your job application.
