2. JA’s Purpose To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives. JA’s Mission To ensure that every child has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system.

3. What is Junior Achievement? • It is the largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise. • JA programs are taught by volunteers in-class and after-school at locations throughout the United States and in nearly 100 countries.

4. Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest: Facts & Overview -JAUM was founded in 1949 and serves Minnesota, North Dakota and Western Wisconsin -JA has been in the Rochester area since 1962 -In the 2003-2004 school, year JA Rochester served 3,859 students in 156 Rochester area classrooms -In the 2004-2005 school, year JA Rochester is projected to serve over 4,600 students in 190 classes

How Young People Benefit from JA: • They have the opportunity to interact with a positive role model; • They learn the importance of positive, professional relationships; • They learn by practical, hands-on experience that success is achieved through education; • They gain confidence from each of their successes, and as a result, carry a “CAN DO” attitude into every aspect of their lives.

11. Volunteers are integral to JA • Volunteers partner with JA staff to deliver the age-appropriate programs to school students. • Volunteers work to educate students in our traditional classroom programs, our after-school programs, our Job Shadow day or in Exchange City.
