Program Goals • The goal of RLP is to “contribute to poverty reduction in Bangladesh” through the development of replicable models which address the root causes of poverty • Two DFID funded agriculture projects; Go Interfish and SHABGE along with the Livelihood Monitoring Project, had been consolidated into the Rural Livelihood Program in April 2003

  3. Common traits between Go Interfish and SHABGE • Field school methodology: • Technology Transfer • Experimental learning • The “buddy” system as the main instrument to reach secondary adopters

  4. Common traits between Go Interfish and SHABGE • Organizational Development of Farmers Field school: • FFSs aim to have a continued institutional life beyond the project’s end • Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation • Organizational Strengthening

  5. Common traits between Go Interfish and SHABGE • Access to Services: • Linkages to service providers: private, state and NGOs • Elected FFS members in charge of cultivating linkages with service providers

  6. Common traits between Go Interfish and SHABGE • Gender: • Learning session on women’s participation in decision-making • Gender analysis at various field levels: household, village, and region • Gender learning sessions addressing men and women • Awareness-raising on women' rights

  7. Common traits between Go Interfish and SHABGE • Partner NGO Organizational Development; • Planning, Management, Monitoring and evaluation • Household Livelihood Security • Strengthening of conceptual skills

  8. Rural Livelihood Program in brief • 3080 ongoing and 2740 phased out FFSs • Around 145500 farmers involved • Establishment of Markets and Business Development Unit • End of the Program March 2005

  9. Marketing Activities • Methodology • No direct delivery • No subsidies, no free services • No Market Distortion • Development of linkages with the private sector • Promotion of “Embedded Services” • Interventions at the Market Value Chain level

  10. Marketing Activities • Four Main Interventions at the Program level: • Vegetable Sub sector, linkages with the private sector, • Para Vets, • Milk and Dairy, Interventions on Market Value Chain, • Mushrooms • Regional Marketing Activities
