  1. Sacagawea By: MacKenzie Frum Tanisha May and Alisha Collins

  2. Sacagawea • Sacagawea went on a expedition with Lewis, Clark, York ( a slave ), and her husband AKA The Corps of Discovery • They wanted to map the territory, wanted to search for a North West Passage, and they wanted to make contact with the indians , and bring back specimens of plants and animals

  3. Sacagawea • Lewis and Clark didn’t really want Sacagawea to come. They wanted her husband , a white man, to be there guide • Sacagawea proved to be an unexpected asset for the expedition • They let her be the guide instead of her husband because she knew the land better since she had lived there her whole life

  4. Sacagawea • She had to act as a guide when they had to trade with other indians • Sacagawea even acted as a peace symbol because the other indians knew that if she was with the white men willingly Lewis and Clark were not a threat

  5. Sacagawea

  6. Sacagawea • Soon on their journey they would run into the Rocky Mountains • That is terrifying because the mountains have very harsh winters and if they don’t get out of them soon they will become trapped and die in the mountains • They have to find an indian tribe to trade with so they can get horses and move quickly through the mountains

  7. Sacagawea • On August 17, 1805 the Corpse of Discovery reaches a Shoshone village at the foot of the Rockies • They get horses there • They only get horses because they come to find out that the Chief of the tribe is Sacagawea’s long loss and kidnapped brother

  8. Sacagawea • On their journey Sacagawea has her baby

  9. Sacagawea • Sacagawea died on December 20, 1866 at the fort where her husband was working at after the expedition was over • She was said to be buried on those grounds

  10. Bibliography-Sacagawea • We used the following things for our project on Sacagawea • www.googleimages.com • www.answers.com • And our history journals
