  2. Options for Earning College Credit -Advanced Placement- • 12 Courses -Concurrent Enrollment • U of MN - 3 Courses • St. Cloud State University - 2 Courses -PSEO

  3. Preparation for students considering maximizing their college credit opportunities • Freshmen- Multiple honors classes, World Language, A’s and B’s • Sophomores- 1-2 AP classes w/ Honors English & World Language- A’s and B’s

  4. Students Staying at FHS for College Credit Opportunities • Juniors- 2-3 AP/Concurrent Enrollment, maximize Math classes, & World Language • Seniors- 2-5 AP/Concurrent Enrollment Classes • TOTAL college credits 9th -12th = 18 to 46

  5. Sophomore Year • Advanced Placement U.S. History • Advanced Placement Biology

  6. Junior Year • Advanced Placement European History • Advanced Placement English Language and Composition • Advanced Placement Chemistry • SCSU Global Geography • Advanced Placement Microeconomics • Advanced Placement Statistics • Pre-Calculus A/B & Trigonometry

Senior Year • U of MN Writing and Critical Reading • U of MN Literature • Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition • U of MN Calculus or Advanced Placement Statistics • Advanced Placement Psychology • Advanced Placement Microeconomics • Other AP courses not taken previously (APUSH, etc) • SCSU College Physics • SCSU Global Geography

  8. What is PSEO? Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) allows highly motivated high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to take courses, full or part time, at a college or university for both high school and college credit.

What are the Characteristics of a Successful PSEO Student? • Success in college level courses taken at FHS (i.e. Honors/AP/Concurrent Enrollment) • Ability to self-advocate • Mature social skills • Good at balancing several responsibilities, strong time management skills, and highly independent • Strong assessment scores (i.e. EXPLORE/PLAN/PSAT/ACT)

What are the Responsibilities of a PSEO Student/Family? • Communication with high school counselor (provide schedule, agreements, and transcripts each college semester) • Tracking all grades and college class requirements (FERPA) • Transportation • Communication with FHS (obtaining deadlines and school wide information) • Class attendance- part time students are required to attend all scheduled FHS classes in full

General PSEO Information • Maintain full time credit status • Grades earned are transferred to FHS transcript at face value (GPA) • Remedial, developmental, and other non-credit bearing classes are not covered under PSEO • Transcript is effected by withdrawing from a course • FHS athletics and activities (eligibility)

Considerations • FHS trimester calendar vs. college semester calendar • Social Interaction- high school vs. college • Social and psychological developmental readiness • Connectedness to high school • Risks and consequences of grades/credits • Credit transferability and matriculation • Have you exhausted your options of college level courses at FHS? • FHS college level courses as preparation for PSEO

Next steps if you want to pursue PSEO… • Review and discuss college credit and PSEO information as a family. • Schedule a meeting with your student’s counselor. • Go to PSEO webpage of college(s) you are considering and sign up for info. session/visit • Visit the college(s) in which you have an interest, including the PSEO Office/Advisor. • Consult the MN Dept. of Ed. PSEOwebsite • Go through the application process at the college. * PSEO applicants register for 15 classes at FHS and schedule is adjusted appropriately.
