  6. Unmanned Systems Range Ongoing efforts to link unmanned systems interoperability testing initiatives. • Location on the James River off of Fort Eustis is getting more and more activity. • Ideally suited to test Army, Navy, university, and private systems with the goal of promoting interoperability.

  7. First Responder Programs Robot Venture has engaged with Defense Department (DoD) program that allows First Responder organizations to borrow and use robots. • Collaborating with DoD and Newport News Fire Department to obtain loan of a robot for 4 to 6 months. • Ongoing discussions of DoD establishing a Technology Outreach center in Hampton Roads. Would be regional and national asset to train First Responders in various kinds of robotic equipment

  8. ROBOTIC SYSTEMS POOL Accelerates the technological advance of US military forces and law enforcement by purchasing the latest robotic technology and making it available to government agencies. • Provides government • agencies at all levels with the opportunity to evaluate and experiment with mobile robots in their own unique operational domains. • Users can make appropriate acquisitions of robots based on their experience. • Robot Developers benefit from the users feedback and recommendations, enabling them to improve their designs and better meet the • emerging needs. • Pool is expanding to • include UASs and • UUSs. Inuktun Developers Foster-Miller iRobot Feedback Technology SSC San Diego Users Utah State University World Trade Center Iraq/Afghanistan

  9. Map of Current and Proposed DoD Technology Outreach Centers

  10. October 23rd Technology Transfer Forum, Suffolk, Virginia (VMASC) Purpose is to facilitate transfer of technology from Federal Laboratories into the market place that would benefit First Responders Technology transfer includes licensing, knowledge transfer, and partnerships Focus areas include Air monitoring, Remote manipulation, Situation awareness, and Communication / Data Relay.

  11. FIRST Robotics Initiative FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Program facilitates in-school and extra-curricular programs that get students interested in engineering and technology. Robot Venture is part of an effort to develop a regional approach to strengthen and grow FIRST programs in the region.

  12. FIRST Vision To positively transform culture by inspiring young people, their schools, and communities to appreciate science and technology. Mission To design accessible, innovative programs that build not only science and technology skills and interests but also self-confidence, leadership, and life skills.

  13. SUMMARY Robot Venture continues to facilitate a holistic and alignment approach to regional unmanned systems initiatives in the realm of: • Military and other agency interoperability • Research • First Responder applications • Educational programs
