  2. Types of Abuse • Physical abuse- bodily harm inflicted on another person • Sexual abuse- sexual behavior between and adult or adolescent and a non-consenting person

  3. Types of Abuse • Neglect- failure of a parent or legal guardian to provide for the basic needs of a person in his or her charge • Emotional abuse- emotional mistreatment of another person

  4. Secondary Types of Abuse • Child abuse- illegal treatment committed by an adult against a child that involves use of physical, sexual, or emotional force, cruelty, or neglect • Spouse abuse- abuse of one’s husband or wife • Elder abuse- abuse of an elderly person
