  1. Augustus and the Roman Empire Name:Pd._____The Roman Republic was successful in leading Rome for nearly 500 years, but the Senate grew corrupt and many Romans wanted a strong leader. They found their leader in Julius Caesar. Caesar was a military leader who had the support of the people and named himself dictator for life. Caesar’s rivals began to see him as too powerful and murdered him. Following his death, his grand-nephew, Octavian (Augustus) would succeeded him and became the first emperor of Rome. Augustus made several changes to the Roman Empire that led to 200 years of peace, known as PaxRomana. Complete the cartoon reel, illustrating several of Augustus’ accomplishments that led to Roman peace and success. Be creative and include brief captions. Maybe not Life is good here in the Republic. I am a Patrician, so I can hold powerful positions in government and elect government officials. He’s right, even though I’m just a Plebeian, I am still a citizen and have rights.
