Aug 12th – 16th 3rd Grade News – Mrs. Mizer’sClass Language Arts/Social Studies App and Website of the Week Website: This is a great website to get a jump start on your multiplication facts. http://www.multiplication.com/games/all-games App: Spelling City - Download to your device so we can use it in the classroom on Friday. Remember apps cannot be downloaded at school. Reading: We will be implementing the Daily 5 and practicing routines this week. Students will be self-selecting reading for homework this week. Books-in-a-Bag will come home in a couple of weeks. Writing: We will be looking at “How a Good Writer Writes” and writing expectations in 3rd grade. Social Studies: Our Greece unit will embrace how the Olympics started, government and what we borrowed from them to start our government, location, architecture, and more. Teacher Notes Math & Science Notebooks: You might see fewer papers coming home; this is because the students will be adding many items to their interactive notebooks. We will explain this more on Curriculum Night. Folders/Agenda: This week we will be implementing our binders/agenda systems to the students. This is a learning process, so please ask your child to show you their agenda each night. Homework packets will be coming home this week and are due Friday! Math: We will be doing some pre-tests this week to see the needs of each student, so they can be addressed. Science: We will be looking at Rocks and Minerals and their attributes. You will also see some of our math word problems incorporating our science material. Weekly Spelling & Vocabulary Words Important Dates COMING SOON Weekly spelling words will be written here! The students will also be writing them in their agenda. Writing the words from the board to their agenda is a new concept, and students don’t always get them copied correctly at first. So, they will always be provided in the newsletter. This way you can check your child’s work and help them study them correctly. Curriculum Night: 3rd Grade will be on the 27th in the gym multi-purpose room. More information will be coming home soon. August 28th: ½ day; early release September 2nd – No School – Labor Day Weekend
