  2. The Study of God Part 1 The Attributes of God

  3. The Natural Attributes of God • God is eternal – no beginning and no end • Psalm 90:2 • Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. • Genesis 1:1 • In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. • 1 Timothy 1:17 • Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen

  4. The Natural Attributes of God • God is immutable – does not change • Malachi 3:6 • I the Lord do not change …….. • Psalm 102:25-27 • In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same and your years will never end.

  5. The Natural Attributes of God • God is omnipotent – all powerful • Luke 1:37 • For with God nothing is impossible. • Psalm 115:3 • Our God in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. • Psalm 33:6-9 • By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere Him. For He spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

  6. The Natural Attributes of God • God is omnipresent – present everywhere • Psalm 139:7-10 • Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

  7. The Natural Attributes of God • God is omniscient – knows everything • Psalm 139:1-6 • O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely. O Lord, You hem me in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

  8. The Moral Attributes of God • God is holy • Psalm 99:9 • Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain for the Lord our God is holy. • 1 John 1:5 • …. God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all. • Exodus 15:11. • Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders.

  9. The Moral Attributes of God • God is righteous and just • Psalm 11:6-7 – punishment of sinners • On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulphur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face. • 1 John 1:9 – forgiveness of the repentant • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. • Numbers 23:19 – fulfillment of his promises • …. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

  10. The Moral Attributes of God • God is merciful • 1 Timothy 2:4 – towards all men • … who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. • Isaiah 55:7 – towards sinners • Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. • Psalm 32:10 – towards those who trust him • Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.

  11. The Moral Attributes of God • God is love • John 3:16 • For God so loves the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. • Romans 8:39 • … neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of god that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  12. The Moral Attributes of God • God is faithful • 1 Corinthians 1:9 • God who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. • Deuteronomy 7:9 • Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.

  14.
