Lake Stevens High SchoolGraduation Requirements: • 23.5 credits required to graduate 1 class for 1 full year = 1credit - Possible to earn 6 credits per yr. -College Entry Requirements are more specific – look into each college -Pass Washington State History requirement to earn diploma and to get into Washington Colleges (8th Grade).
Break Down of Credits • 4.0 Language Arts ( new -11th Grade English) • 3.0 Social Studies • 3.0 Mathematics • 1.5 Physical Education • .5 Health • 1.5 Occupational (Must include .5 in Computer Applications, Drafting, Digital Design, or Journalism) Technological Literacy • 2.0 Science • 1.0 Fine Arts • 7.0 Electives 23.5 Credits
Additional Graduation Requirements • 0.5 credits of Occ. Ed must be Technology Literacy: Comp. Apps, Dig. Design or Drafting • Complete a 13th Year Plan – 9th thru 12th Gr. • Meet Standard on VIP Paper – 11th Grade • Successfully complete a Culminating Exhibition(CE) as part of Viking Experience during 12th Grade (archives too) • Meet Standard on State Assessments-Reading, Writing, Science & Math State Assessments (EOC in Algebra and Geometry) in 9th or 10th Grade – options afterward • 45 Community Service Hrs (10th-12th grade - starts in the summer after 9th grade)
9th Grade Requirements: • Archives to Viking Portfolio (9-12) • Complete a 13th Year Plan (in 9th Grade Health class) • Pass Health class in 9th Grade • Student has already met Washington State Historyrequirement (should have been completed in 8th grade). • Earn 6 credits during 9th grade year – be a 10th Grader at end of year!

Registration Process Counselors met with 8th grade students Monday during their History classes. • Students received Registration Forms and Course information. • These materials should have been brought home. Great opportunity to clean out the backpack. • On-line registration this Thursday - 3/15 during History classes. Students can do at home as well. • Decisions for you and your student: 1. Electives Choices (i.e. Pre-AP English or History, Spanish, POE, Drafting, Math Support & Study Skills, etc) • 9th Grade Course Handbook is on our website 1. “Proposed” Courses

ATTENDANCE - • 10 absences in class = loss of credit • Three unexcused Tardies = absence • May recover up to 5 EXCUSED absences through Sat. School or after school opportunities • May make up credit in summer school (some classes) • May also make up credit in Credit Retrieval class second semester (some classes) • - Attendance must be excused by note or phone within 3 days of absence
