  3. The role of GPs in supporting return to work • At least 85% of the Australian population visit their GP at least once in any given year • The role of the GP in supporting return to work is not just about managing the injury, GPs treat patients holistically

How do Divisions of General Practice support GP involvement in Return to Work? • Hunter Urban Division of General Practice – Best Practice Rehabilitation Program: • Return to work and occupational rehabilitation • Employment Services • Psychological/conflict resolution services • OH&S and ergonomic services • Medicolegal and consultancy services • Training services

GP Partners program: Coordinated Team Care Trials • 16 team care service coordinators • 179 GPs in 108 practices, 2720 patients • Significant health/wellbeing benefits: • Improvements in depression, general health, quality of life • Real impacts on secondary health care • 11- 36% reduced hospital utilisation • Better access / increased MBS use
