Statistics From Today • 13% of teens have had vaginal sex by the age of 15 • On average young people have sex at about the age of 17, but don’t marry until their mid-twenties. Nearly a decade exposed to increased risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancy • A sexually active teen that doesn’t use contraceptives has a 90% chance of getting pregnant within a year • Majority of sexually active teens used contraceptives the first time they have sex (79% of females and 87% of males) • The condom is the most common used contraceptive- 68% of females and 82% of males use them
