Manx ICT Association AGM 2013 12/9/13
Progress to Date • 38 Member Companies. • Representing 672 Industry Employees. • Worked with DED/Chamber of Commerce to align industry statistics and achieve a benchmark for the size of the sector on the Isle of Man which is comparable with other official measures. • Skills survey confirms view that ICT demand outstrips supply. • Change in work permit regulations. • New ICT Apprenticeship Scheme
Committee 2012-2013 The 2012-2013 Committee were unopposed and thereby appointed en-bloc: Alan Cowin (Wi-Manx) Charles Douthwaite Chris Davies (Intelligence) Chris Gledhill (PDMS/Chairman) John Ormond (Central Software) Tim Nicholson (PDMS) (resigned) Steve Burrows (SBA) Tim Cass (Netcetera) Ian Quayle (Argon Technologies) Stephen Trimble (Continent 8 Technologies) There is scope for 2 more committee members if anyone wishes to volunteer
Finances 2012-2013 Our model of low subscription fees and self-funding events is working, we have established a healthy balance giving MICTA flexibility to be more entrepreneurial about promotion and future events. The role of Secretary, which bears the main workload for the administration of MICTA, is a paid appointment in the constitution, but has not drawn any funds to date.
Concerns Engagement – current members Nearly a thirdof members have not provided a profile for the MICTA website; profiles are needed to show the strength and diversity of MICTA membership. Memberships We need to make a decision on memberships as subscriptions are now up for renewal. Events We need to make a conscious effort to increase the no. of events with minimum of 1 per quarter in order to ensure value and maintain cohesion within MICTA Introduce CPD certificates for MICTA events
Work in Progress Close to securing funding from Government to support development of the ICT industry through MICTA contributing to both organic growth and inward investment, in line with DED sector strategy. The MICTA website is to be enhanced with a searchable ‘Skills register’, agreed by committee. This may extend to a full tender portal / skills exchange if support can be found. Work with IOM Govt. to showcase local capability and encourage on island procurement wherever possible.
Other Business • Employment and Skills 26th November 9am-7pm – Chamber of Commerce stand, can MICTA man the stand for a couple of hours? • Recruitment of individuals/organisation to provide services in relation to MIF funding • ICT round table in November
