Substance- either an element or a compound cannot be broken down into simpler components and still maintain the properties it had originally Element- a substance in which all atoms are alike Elements in nature are stableElements from labs are unstable - exist only for short periods of time Aluminum- can be used as a blanket because it reflects radiation (a form of heat).
