  2. Adverb Subordinate Conjunctions • Subordinate Conjunctions connect two sentences that are related. • Remember both word groups must have a Subject and a Verb. Subordinate Conjunction (Whenwearrived at class), itwas right on time.

  3. Subordinate Conjunctions • For example, let’s take two sentences having a Subject and a Verb: Iarrived at class. The fire alarmrang. • You can connect these two sentences to show that there is a relationship between them: WhenIarrived at class, the fire alarmrang. • The Subordinate Conjunction (When) connects the Subordinate Clause “Iarrived at class” to the Main Clause “The fire alarmrang.

  5. Subordinate Conjunctions Here are the two rules you need to know about using commas with Subordinate Clauses: • Use commas after subordinate clauses that introduce sentences. Example: WhenIarrived at class, the fire alarmrang. Example: Ilike apples becausetheyare sweet. Notice that you do have a comma when the Subordinate Clause starts the sentence but do not have a comma when the Subordinate Clause does not start the sentence.
