  2. How to solve shortage of drinking water in many countries of our world. Ottawa PEO Chapter is challenging engineers, engineering graduates and students to innovate a standalone, portable, economic, and drinkable water purifier from rain and waste water. First prize - $600, sponsored by Carleton U Global Water Institute. Second prize - $300, sponsored by R.J. Burnside International Ltd. Third prize - $100, sponsored by Ottawa U. Second prize - Thomas Shi and Raphael Kabuuri, Carleton U. Stackable ceramic filter. Third prize - Shu Yu, Ahouse Boroni, U Ottawa; Arshi Mehta, Carleton U. Filtration with 50 microns and 5 microns sediment filters; and 1 micron carbon filter. Other competitors – (1) Ethan Ross, Carleton U, ultraviolet light filter; (2) Moshood Raheem, Carleton U, KDF55 filter and charcoal filter; (3) Sameer Ali, Faris Rashid, low cost solar Still Unit under vacuum; (4) H. Bonakdari, Guelph U, hybrid airlift bioreactor.

  4. Innovation team members – Tapan Das (chair), Dave Carter, Ray Barton, Omar Chaudhry, Robert Dick, Emil Joannau, Muhammad Malik, and Edward Adtraghji. Tapan Das made the opening remark welcoming the audience, chief guest, judges, sponsors and competitors. John Hazel Ottawa PEO chapter spoke for the chapter board. Omar Chaudhry acted as emcee. Feibi Xu helped in arranging the meeting. This is an excellent example how Ottawa PEO chapter and two universities in Ottawa are working together to encourage talented young university students and engineers to come up with innovative solutions to solve a very desperate global problem. Canada ranks very low in innovation among developed countries and needs these type of activities to encourage innovation among students and engineers for employment and economic benefit.
