  2. Anatomical Position • Palms up • Thumbs out • Kind of uncomfortable to be in this position (normally we have our hands cupped, turned towards our sides.) • “Right” and “left” are the patient’s right and left…opposite as we look at them

  3. The Language of Anatomy • Special terminology is used to prevent misunderstanding • Exact terms are used for: • Position • Direction • Regions • Structures

  6. Proximal • Only used for limbs…closer to body • Distal • Away from the body. Only used for limbs • Superficial • Towards the surface of the body • Deep • Away from the surface
