How do I write explanations for my weekly work?Or “Ms. Lambert is not going to put up with slop any longer because we are smart and capable 6th graders.”
What IS NOT an explantion: • Page 222. • Yes (Or No, maybe, because, etc.) • I read it. (In the textbook, textbook, book, read it, or any variation of the same. ) • Cause that’s what it is. (Or that’s the right answer). • You taught it (or I learned it). • The others are all wrong. • Your power-point. Your wiki. Your shirt. Your best friend. • One or two word responses. (How do I know what the heck you mean by “geologist?” or “Volcano?”
What IS an explanation: EXAMPLES: • The ear drum vibrates when sound waves hit it. • Alternating current “alternates” it’s direction. • Geology is the study of the Earth, so it makes since that “Geo” would mean Earth. • Energy is neither created nor destroyed so if kinetic energy increases, potential must be decreasing. • P waves and s waves are both body waves.
Consequence? • YOU WILL LOSE 1 POINT FOR EACH QUESTION THAT ISN’T EXPLAINED. • I have been lenient in the past. No longer. • The NON explanations will NO longer be acceptable. • YOU WILL LOSE POINTS IF YOU DO NOT EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWERS IN A WAY THAT SHOWS YOU KNOW THE INFORMATION.
