Christian Fundamentals The One And Only True God
The One And Only True God We have established that the King James Bible is our only true source for God’s Word in this day and age. It is the only version that contains all the words that God said we need. It is now time to look into the fundamentals covered in Scripture. The first one in our study and importance is The One and Only True God.
The One And Only True God How do we do a study on the one and only true God? This was the question I asked myself when putting together this section of our study of The Christian Fundamentals! As we shall shortly see, this is a question as old as the oldest book of our King James Bible. Let’s start with the idea that there is only one true God who has given us His word as we found in our previous study. By rightly dividing the word of truth, we can increase our belief in God and His infinite existence. It will take faith to do this, but that is exactly what God wants from us!
The One And Only True God Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
The One And Only True God Can someone seek after something they do not believe exists? God says in Psalm 14:1, “ The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” (KJV) It would therefore be utter foolishness to believe that someone who does not believe in God would seek after Him. Would someone then who does not believe in God believe they will be rewarded for diligently seeking that which they do not believe in? It just will not happen. Let’s look again at Hebrews 11:1.
The One And Only True God Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, ANDthat he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Notice the AND there? In order for the whole of this statement to be true, both sections of the statement joined by the word AND must be true. If we are to come to God we must both believe He exists and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Our belief in Him and our ability to diligently seek Him defines what our faith is. We do this without having seen Him at anytime. And yet, if we begin with believing God is the one and only God, and diligently seek after him, we will please Him and be rewarded for our endeavor!
The One And Only True God The first 4 words of the Bible are “In the beginning God…” One does not need to be a gifted Bible scholar to know from this that there was a beginning and God was there. Because the next word is created, we can further see that God was there before the beginning. How can we assume this to be the case? Because the rest of Genesis 1:1 speaks of God creating the heaven and the earth.
The One And Only True God John 1:3 (KJV) “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. “ If it exists, God made it and He made it in the beginning! Now, try to wrap your head around the idea that God was there before the beginning. There is God, then there was the beginning, and then there is creation.
The One And Only True God We have God before the beginning, as we just saw. This is where time began … in the beginning. Before the beginning was God.
The One And Only True God Revelation 10:5–6 (KJV) And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: There will be a point that there should be time no longer. God will still be there because He lives for ever and ever. God was here before time, God is here now, and God will be here after time.
The One And Only True God We are no closer to understanding the one and only true God than Job was roughly 4,000 years ago! Job 11:7–9 (KJV) Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
The One And Only True God We cannot comprehend God in and of ourselves. This much is clear. God, does however, reveal Himself to us through His Word! That same Word that has been given to us in his inspired, and inerrant King James Bible. This we can read and gain some understanding. If we fail to read His Word, then our ignorance is wholly our fault.
The One And Only True God God is not only God, but the one and only God. Exodus 20:1–6 (KJV) And God spake all these words, saying, Iam the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
The One And Only True God God is not only God, but the one and only God. We just read how God commands we have no other gods before Him. Nothing that God has created is to be treated as our god. Verses 5 and 6 of what we just read shows us the balance that God exhibits. It not only shows us the balance He uses, but shows us that God does not just haphazardly deal out punishment or reward as those of the world think He does. If you insist on creating your own god, God promises us he will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Him; Do as God commands and He will show mercy unto thousands of them that love Him, and keep His commandments
The One And Only True God While God has chosen the Nation of Israel as His chosen people, we as Gentiles are in no means not part of His plan of salvation. Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection have secured for us who believe on him a position as one of God’s chosen. We can see this in a story presented to us in Acts chapter 10. A story that is often misinterpreted.
The One And Only True God Acts 10:9–12 (KJV) On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
The One And Only True God Acts 10:13–16 (KJV) And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voicespake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
The One And Only True God Let’s take a look at a few points here first before we continue. If we read on in the next verse, we find Peter doubted in himself what this vision he had seen should mean. We find God tells Peter that what he has cleansed is not to be called common. God repeats this three times. Peter was commanded by God to eat of those things presented and Peter refused Him out of his own goodness. Let’s read on.
The One And Only True God Acts 10:24–29 (KJV) And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends. And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together. And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
The One And Only True God The vessel shown to Peter by God represented those things that had been called unclean by the Law. Peter, being hungry, only saw this as an offering of food to eat. We see though, that Peter finally came to the understanding that it was not only food being shown, but something that represented those who were not of the nation of Israel. Because of Jesus paying the price of sin for us, we, who believe on Jesus, are called clean by God. Just like we read in Exodus 20:6, “And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.“ There is actually so much more that can be learned from this section of Scripture that it would benefit you to read this section and allow the Holy Ghost to be your teacher.
The One And Only True God God is the Creator of all things We’ve looked at how God was in the beginning and there before the beginning. We know He created all things. Genesis 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:2 (KJV) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The One And Only True God God is the Creator of all things John 1:1–3 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. We just read about God, His Spirit, and the Word all being in the beginning. This shows the Trinity of the Godhead to us and it being there from the beginning and before. As we see, all things were created by him without exception.
The One And Only True God God is the Creator of all things So, we as Bible believing Christians have God’s Word on creation. The rest of the world hates God and refuses to believe His Word. They would rather believe that things were created from an initial thing that was infinitesimally small, (which actually translates to nothing), and came into existence when this infinitesimally small thing exploded. Everything came from nothing and it was all done in a physical means. God says, Hebrews 11:3 (KJV) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
The One And Only True God God is the Creator of all things The world’s theory of how everything came into existence contains some truth, but it contains a lie of the devil. Something indeed did come from nothing physical, but it came from the Word of God. God spoke it and it came into being. It didn’t explode into being from something so small it doesn’t exist! The world hates God though and have refused to retain God in their knowledge. As a result, there is only one other source of information out there, Satan. Everything was created by God and they all regenerate after their own kind. Things do not evolve from other things. None of our relatives were chimpanzees! Or single-celled creatures!
The One And Only True God Here are some other things we are told about God. John 4:24 (KJV) Godis a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Psalm 147:5 (KJV) Greatis our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. Psalm 83:18 (KJV) Thatmen may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. Isaiah 55:8–9 (KJV) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. Foras the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The One And Only True God Let’s take a look at the words given to Paul as he spoke to those in Athens. Acts 17:22–23 (KJV) Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
The One And Only True God Acts 17:24–25 (KJV) God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
The One And Only True God Acts 17:26–27 (KJV) And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
The One And Only True God Acts 17:28–29 (KJV) For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
The One And Only True God Acts 17:30–31 (KJV) And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
The One And Only True God Have you believed on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus as your sole means of salvation? There is no salvation in any other name. There is one and only one true God and it is by His terms that we are given that free gift of salvation. Repent of your sins, believe on Jesus and be saved. Repentance is not a work as some would have you believe, but a decision to turn from your ways unto God’s ways. We will all be judged, but only those who are judged at the Great White Throne Judgment will receive eternal damnation, torment and suffering in that Eternal Lake of Fire originally created for the devil and his angels. We who believe on Jesus for salvation will have our works judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ and enter in eternal life with the Father in Heaven. The choice is yours!
