  6. Argumentative Essay (30 Minutes) Mayor Rahm Emanuel supports opening new charter schools while many district schools face closings. For example, in 2013, seven new charter schools were approved to be opened while almost 50 district schools were closed for under-enrollment and budgetary reasons. Citing evidence from the Chicago Tribune article as well as information discussed in class, discuss whether you approve or disapprove of Mayor Emanuel’s desire to close district schools and open more charter schools.
