As we travel with Jesus over the next couple of weeks we will see people wrestling with who He is, and what it really means to follow. Jesus’ brothers • James • Joseph • Judas or Jude • Simon
John 7:2-9 But soon it was time for the Jewish Festival of Shelters, 3 and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! 4 You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” 5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him. 6 Jesus replied, “Now is not the right time for me to go, but you can go anytime. 7The world can’t hate you, but it
John 7:2-9 does hate me because I accuse it of doing evil. 8 You go on. I’m not going to this festival, because my time has not yet come.” 9 After saying these things, Jesus remained in Galilee.
All of us have had questions about who Jesus is • Just because someone doubts, doesn’t mean that person can not believe. • Just because you may have had questions doesn’t mean that God can’t use you.
James 5:13-16 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be
James 5:13-16 healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
Luke 9:51 As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
Luke 9:52-56 He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival. 53 But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem. 54 When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, “Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up ?” 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 So they went on to another village.
Luke 9:57-58 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
We will not be able to plan and prepare like other people do
Luke 9:59-60 He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 60 But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:61-62 Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.”62 But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”
We have to put Jesus above everything else He has to be more than a part of our lives, He has to be the focus of our lives
