Fat • Important for a source of energy. • Needed for absorption • Vitamins A, D, E and K. • Provides essential fatty acids that can • help heart health, make hormones and build healthy cells and skin. • Major storage form of energy in body. • Is an energy storage encase of starvation. • Mainly found in animal products and oils • Dairy products, meats, sunflower seed oil, ect… • Types: • Saturated, unsaturated, trans fatty acids

Minerals • Essential to proper functioning of body • The foods that have nutritious minerals are: • Tea, nuts, yogurt, apples, milk, seafood, ect… • Help keep your heart rate normal • Keeps bones and teeth strong • naturally occurring solid formed through geological processes • Two types: • Macro minerals: calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, Sodium, sulphur and chloride • Trace minerals: iron, magnesium, cobalt ,zinc, iodine and copper

Proteins • Building and repair of body tissues.  • produces enzymes, hormones, and other substances the body uses. • Foods that have protein: • Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, soups, beans and dairy • Contained in every part of your body. • Proteins are composed of small units. • There is no life without protein • Helps tissue

Fibre • Keeps digestive system healthy and functioning properly • Aids and speeds excretion of waste and toxins • Foods that have lots of fibre: • Whole grain bread, microwave popcorn, brown rice and apples. • Lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. • Lower your risk of: • Colon cancer, heart disease, and digestive problems • Substance found in foods that come from plants • Two types of fibre: • Naturally occurring fibre • Insoluble fibre

Water • Removes dangerous toxins you breathe in • Keeps metabolism working properly • Foods/drinks such as: • Camomile tea, fruits, ect… have lots of fluids • Occurs at room temperature colourless, odourless, ect… • 70% of adults body is water • Healthy person drinks 48 cups per day • Drinking to quickly leads to water intoxication
