  1. SEWING CLASS 101 RECOMMENDED BASIC SUPPLY LIST FOR EVERY SEAMSTRESS A good sharp pair of scissors for cutting fabric only. I recommend Gingher. A second pair for cutting patterns. Any basic scissors will work but make sure they are sharp. Optional: Embroidery stork scissors for clipping threads especially for hand sewing. A measuring tape made of plastic. Do not use tapes made of fabric. They fray. A plastic 2” see through ruler. At least 18” in length. A hem gauge. Make sure it has the moveable plastic glider. Sharp standard straight pins with plastic, glass, or pearl heads. A wrist pin cushion with elastic band. Pin cushion for holding extra pins, i.e., tomato style A package of assorted hand needles. A threading needle. To help thread hand needles. A set of weights for holding down patterns and fabric.

  2. A seam ripper – a seamstress’ best friend! Marking pencils – one in blue and white. Seamstress chalk works too. A tracing wheel. A set of bobbins to match your machine. Thread in a variety of colors. Always have lots of black and white to start off with and keep in stock.
