Issues which need to be addressed • Further development of the Personal kit and ensure complementarity's with existing kit • Change in the profile and background of UNDAC members • Opening of regional OCHA offices • Development of OCHA Personal ICT kits New partnership in the provision of support • New technology and increased expectations (internet access, information management tools, image management) • Changing role of the UNDAC team in large scale emergencies to facilitate the work of cluster system • Establishment of Emergency telecommunications cluster • Expanding role of the IHP in emergency response
Personal kit Issues: • Not all members have full kit • Working with the UN purchase system • New UNDAC members don’t have field level experience • Some personal kit’s are never utilized Approach: • Supplementary kit has been donated by Sweden/SRSA • Working with private company on the development of kit • Increased hands-on training • Strengthening of the selection process
UNDAC mission Kit • Issues: • Increasing number of regional offices • More mission are lead by UNDAC Team leader from regions • Strategic discussion of the role of the regional offices • Maintenance of mission kit • Implementation of OCHA communications kits • New technology and change of service providers • Approach: • OCHA Mgt working group on regional offices • Mission kits are distributed to regional offices • Agreement with UNOG and other service providers • Agreement on standards, methods and providers • Training and practical exercise in the use of the equipment
New development in the mission kit • Replacement of mission software with Groove • Installation of Skype, Google Earth e.g. • New Satellite Phone system to include data phones • Integration of wireless LAN • Implementation of next generation GPS units • Supplement with additional GSM phone units
UNDAC Equipment Support modules • Issues: • UNDAC may be expected to provide the platform for the cluster coordination and provide technical support • Increasing demands and expectations to Equipment support • Establishment of the Emergency Telecommunications cluster • Limitations and restrictions in aviation equipment handling • Approach: • Increased capacity through expanded network (partnerships) • Establishment of the Technical working group • IHP Participation in the emergency telecommunications wrk. grp. • Revision of the module and implementation of new standards
New development in the Support modules • Establishment of Americas Support team • Development of SOP’s with IHP, APHP, TSF and others • Review of the resources base (IHP Review) • New Support module concept: OSOCC Module ICT Module Base camp Module HIC (spl.) Vehicles (standards) MOSS Light Camp Module
