1. Expectations of EVERY UB student It is part of your job as a tutor to help hold the students accountable for their commitment to UB – you should know what that means.

2. 6 objectives of the UB grant Minimum 2.5 Grade point average • Academic Performance--Grade Point Average (GPA) • 85% of participants served during the project year will have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a four-point scale at the end of the school year. • Academic Performance on Standardized Test: • 77% of UB seniors served during the project year, will have achieved at the proficient level on state assessments in reading/language arts and math. • Secondary School Retention and Graduation • 96% of project participants served during the project year will continue in school for the next academic year, at the next grade level, or will have graduated from secondary school with a regular secondary school diploma. • Secondary School Graduation (rigorous secondary school program of study) • 75% of all current and prior year UB participants, who at the time of entrance into the project had and expected high school graduation date in the school year, will complete a rigorous secondary school program of study and graduate in that school year with a regular secondary school diploma. • Postsecondary Enrollment • 74% of all current and prior UB participants, who at the time of entrance into the project had an expected high school graduation date in the school year, will enroll in a program of postsecondary education by the fall term immediately following high school graduation or will have received notification, by the fall term immediately following high school, from an institution of higher education, of acceptance but deferred enrollment until the next academic semester (e.g. spring semester) • Postsecondary Completion • 57% of participants who enrolled in a program of postsecondary education, by the fall term immediately following high school graduation or by the next academic term (e.g., spring term) as a result of acceptance by deferred enrollment, will attain either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree within six years following graduation from high school. Test proficient in Math & Reading/LA on the 10th grade WKCE test Pass to the next grade level or graduate with a regular diploma Complete a rigorous HS curriculum (4 years of core, 2 years WL) Senior cohort will enroll in college (2 or 4 year) the fall immediately after graduation, or file a deferment for a spring start date (Reserves). Complete an Associates of Bachelor’s within 6 years of HS graduation

3. Ongoing expectations • All students are REQUIRED to: • Attend weekly tutoring sessions • Attend monthly 20 minute advising sessions • Attend all scheduled Saturday events • Complete monthly Cyberbound posts • Maintain a certain minimum GPA • 2.5 for 9th and 10th grade • 2.75 for 11th and 12th grade • Communicate absences in advance and for an approved reason

4. Excused absences • School activities if an official calendar has been submitted in advance. • Family/Religious commitments with a minimum of 24 hours notice • Illness • WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR MISSING UB EVENTS or TUTORING

5. Ongoing Expectations • All students are REQUIRED, every year, to: • Take a practice ACT • Submit scores for any standardized tests given as school • All students are expected to attend: • The 6 week summer session • The 3-4 college visits per semester • The optional events offered each semester

6. Expectations for cohorts • Sophomores – must take both the PLAN test and the WKCE test at their school • Juniors – must take the ACT by June (end) of the junior year • Seniors – must begin college applications by September 30, complete applications by January 1, complete the FAFSA by March 1, submit copies of ALL acceptance and rejection notices to the UB office.

7. Expectations of students during tutoring sessions • All students should have a planner THEY ARE USING • It can be electronic (phone), but paper is better • We have planners available if a students says they need one • All students MUST complete a Study Guide each week • All students MUST participate in the small group activity • All students are expected to show respect for themselves, their peers, the staff, and the facilities

8. Expectations of tutors during tutoring sessions • Check with each student to determine their plan for night, assignments, and current grades • Maintain an environment conducive to work • Continually check with students throughout the night on their progress and need for help • Assist students with homework completion or refer to another tutor more capable • Check planners and Study Guides for completion • Make comments on Student Guides

9. CYBERBOUND • Beginning in November of 2012, UB students began the Cyberbound Online classroom for monthly discussion threads. • Students have monthly minimum expectations • All staff have been given access to the class in order to: • Check student activity • Read student posts

10. Directions for Cyberbound • Go the the UWL webpage to login to D2L • Under “Select your login method” students click on GUEST (not NetID). • Most login names of first initial.last name • For example: k.oganowski • Passwords are student phone numbers, including area code @UWL • For example:6087855555@UWL • There is a google.doc that has been shared with everyone’s login information • There is a link to this google.doc on the UB website

11. Confidentiality Agreement • You will be provided access to personal information about your small group students • Take this privilege seriously, and do not share the information with anyone who doesn’t already have access • This agreement carries over to when you are no longer working for the program

12. Executive Order #54 • http://www.uwlax.edu/hr/current/Policy/EO-54.htm • EO #54 requires that all state employees, including those employed by the UW System, must report knowledge of child abuse or neglect that was observed or learned of in the course of employment.

13. UB has some GREY area • Poverty • Learning of sexual behavior between teenagers • 3rd party stories • Shock seekers • Bottom line: If the child or other children are in continued danger – REPORT IT.

14. What to do & not to do • DO seek the assistance of your supervisor • DO NOT self investigate • Take the information learned, or freely offered by the student and talk with a supervisor or Campus Police • DO NOT offer advice to the student • DO NOT make promises to the student • DO NOT talk with other staff members about the situation

15. How to report • Speak with your supervisor • They will help you decide if this is situation for reporting, and go with you to report if you would like. • If reporting is necessary Campus Police must be contacted • You will be asked a series of questions about the situation and they will take over the investigation (if they feel a need).

16. What to expect afterward • You CAN NOT lose your job or be disadvantaged for reporting an incident • You will not be provided follow up information about the situation • Your name will not be included in any report or be mentioned during the investigation
